Bought this machine for its offline capability. I gave it five stars because of the outstanding support. There is a learning curve. An email address is given for support and I made extensive use of it. Replies were always within 3 hours. Moreover it is the only laser engraving company that has active LIVE CHAT SUPPORT. Probably the best product support that I have had the pleasure of using. For hobby use, this machine and vendor is the one to use.

I’ve only had this for a week but so far I’ve been very happy with it. I’ll update if I run into any issues. There are some other detailed reviews here so I won’t repeat everything but I’ll add a few thoughts.
The main reason I bought this laser over other ones was the open base- I plan on using this to engrave the bottom of turned wood bowls and I needed something I could put on a stand over different sized bowls. I haven’t tried this yet, and I’ll update if I run into problems, but if my first few test runs are any indication this is going to be perfect.
One concern I had was how easy it would be to position, center, and align the laser. Well- with a first few attempts it’s actually very easy, I’m putting tiny lines of text on 1/2” wide pen barrels, and it’s working great. I did build a holder jig to make it repeatable. Once you load your image the laser centers itself, there is a button that will outline the area to be engraved. The laser moves in a rectangle with the light on, but not burning, to show you the margins. I wish this moved a little slower but you can get a good idea of alignment if you’re patient. I think I’m going to build a thin base that fits between the legs of this thing and etch a grid to help with alignment down the road.

I have a small woodworking business, Creative Grain, and I needed to start laser engraving wood items for clients and shops I sell at. I went with this machine because it was cheap, it gave me the idea of how lasering would go, and I had another woodworker friend use it and he liked it. Overall, for the price I would rate this 5 out of 5. It does give off a little burning smoke from wood, but its not the end of the world. It does a 40"x40" work space, but you can totally engrave on any size item. My cutting/charcuterie boards are all large, I just prop up 2 legs of the machine and it works fine. I'm getting enough business now that I decided to pull the trigger on a 15000mW . This engraver is a great entry level try or for someone who just needs to engrave periodically. I'm a business so I need something faster and more consistent and with a better software interface. I have to say, it has engraved perfectly everything I've thrown at it, even curved hand turned wood items.

I wanted a low cost entry to learn about laser burning and cutting. This works as advertised. There are quick demo videos on the thumb drive for assembly, online use, and offline use. For offline engraving, The picture shows some of my first attempts. Logos and simple black/white imprints come out great without much research. I do a lot of woodworking and I want to burn pictures into the wood. Engraving grayscale images takes a bit of research and practice to get the image just right. I have burned about 50 wood images so far and I'm learning a lot.
Ok, it's been about 6 weeks and I'm still going strong. I'm guessing at least a couple hundred hours of engraving. I've done a couple of leather pieces, but it's mostly wood still. Running at 100% power all the time for speed and varying the depth. Nothing I've done on clear plywood needs more than 10% depth. Still learning about converting photographs to something that will burn the way I want. Added one picture to show the fine detail and one to show my best outcomes so far with photos.

I bought this machine knowing nothing about laser engravers. It serves my purpose well. Was pretty easy to learn after playing with it a while. I was going to have a branding iron made for my logo, but now I can do custom engraving for people I make cutting boards for.

There’s no two ways about it, it’s a great piece of equipment. Focusing the laser is easy, the ability to see *exactly* where the image will be engraved is excellent. You can position with such accuracy . I have only done leather and plastic pieces so far, You can realign and go over it again with precision to get a deeper more pronounced etch. I really love it so far. Super easy assembly and set up. I look forward to doing a lot with it. If you work with Photoshop every day like I do and understand imaging well-you can see even more potential. But you don’t have to have that background to use this excellent machine.

I would say this was one of the best engineered and manufactured micro engravers. The package includes all hardware, and software as well. The instructions were mainly pictorial that were simple to follow. After a simple assembly the machine worked perfectly. Highly recommended.

This is a wonderful machine. I have been using the laser for a few weeks now, and after going through the learning curve, I'm impressed by how well it works. You'll need to experiment with which settings are right for which material, but once that's found out, you can create them. So far, I've tried the cardboard and foam they came with, paper, wood and acrylic. Works well.

. All the more I was amazed how clean and clear everything was packed, all the small parts were stored . The operating instructions are written in good English. All parts were very fitting, I was also very pleasantly surprised that there was still a reserve for all small parts, if one loses one during assembly.
In summary: good to very good quality clean drilled holes and threads, overall recommended.

This is a second unit I have. Like the first so much decided to add a second for a larger work design area. The software I was going to say four star’s only for new users, but have to say five stars over the old software. It engraves and cuts beautifully. Works on my desktop in office great. Sets next to window, use a small fan engraving for smoke extraction can’t smell a thing.

Setup took ~2 hours, about what I would expect from a kit like this. The instructions were pretty easy to follow. The software setup worked out of the box, but a few of the 'tweaks' to optimize it were unclear and took some digging. Laser burns quite well, love the large burn area and the fact that I can actually set this on top of larger projects(like a table top) to burn.

Software - This comes with GRBL Laser. It is a freeware software. It is pretty good for what it does. There are a lot of settings, but not much in terms of directions. I spent a bit of time with trying out different settings.
Hardware - This is what you are paying for. It is very accurate and powerful.
All in all I'm very happy and would buy it again.

Works like a charm. Easy to assemble and use. As you can see by the picture it is possible to use it on a curved surface (ink pen). Most will tell you it is for flat only but with patience and tweaking the settings it IS possible. Great purchase at excellent price!!

The Customer service is absolutely the best online experience I have ever had, I have bought from a lot of sites and it is scary putting out big money and not knowing if the reviews are true or not. But I am telling you. I am horrible at using my Macbook pro but I use it because it is the best, So the laser works on a Microsoft based program. I had so much trouble instaling a VirtualBox program so I can put Windows 10 on my laptop just to run the program to run the laser. Even with the youtube video, they supplied, 12 hours later I lose it. Geek squad wanted ridiculous money. The local guy wanted to charge me $80 with a 4-hour expectation. So I contacted universalengraver and they set up a time at 8 AM on a Sunday so they can do it for me remote. They took over my laptop and did it all for me. I honestly thought after install I would have problems with the laser operation but nope. runs smoothly. The laser is still running now and it is so cool. Do not be afraid of pulling the trigger on this purchase. You will LOVE IT!!!

I am working on getting better with my images, but so far it is doing a great job. If I could make a Suggestion, it would be to have longer wiring. I bought the 20”x 24” model and the wiring lays over the print area. I am trying to figure out some wire management so it won’t accidentally burn through while doing a large piece.

This is a great engraver. Mine didn’t come with instructions or safety glasses at first, but when I notified the company they quickly emailed me a link to an instruction manual and sent glasses through the mail. My one complaint is that the company says they are American made, but they are actually made in China. This was only a problem for shipping. For the glasses alone, it took around two weeks to arrive. The engraver came within a week though. I have had this for about two weeks and I have been able to customize wooden pens and ornaments. It works very well and is fairly easy to use after some learning.

Shipping was very fast. The engraver arrived 4 days after I ordered it. I had some real issues trying to get the software set up, but the online chat support was VERY, VERY helpful. I was trying to run it on a 15 year old laptop with an early version of Win7 that just wasn't up for the task. Even the tech guy couldn't get it to work, no matter what we did.
I got a new laptop (which I needed anyway) with Win10, loaded the software, and was burning test samples right away. After a few hours of testing (and logging) different engraving settings, I must say that this desktop laser will do everything I need it to do.
I am a very happy customer, and can't say enough how helpful the online tech support was.

This is a round base for a basket . My wife will weave a basket onto it.
It is 5" around and 1/2" thick with a 1/16" groove around the outer edge.
The engraving done with the Universal "Blue Laser" came out great, I'm very impressed
with the accuracy and detail of the engraving.

I was impressed with this little machine and what you receive with it.
I was able to engrave on wood, dark plastic, and cardboard very nicely. You have to practice with different settings for different materials.
The software is very basic and sometimes that is best. No need to install the software as it's a simple executable file.
If you just want to play and have fun with a machine to try out laser engraving then I don't think you can go wrong.

After reading some of the reviews on this laser engraver, i took a chance and bought it, Took me about 120 minutes total to download driver and software and installed them. About 10 minutes to figure out how to use the software. Very easy and straightforward, not sure why some people said they couldn't get it to work. This is a fun tool to have. My sister is getting married this May, i'm gonna use this to create some custom artworks for her wedding reception.

This is an initial laser engraver for me, just wanted to see if I really wanted to dabble in this. I absolutely love it! It is easy to setup, easy to use and does a great job. I just wish it had a bigger platform as the objects it can burn are quite small, but extremely detailed. I will upgrade eventually, but if you want something to get you into this hobby, I suggest it as a starter engraver.

I got this because I wanted to make personalized items for my loved ones and I would allways go to a store to get stuff engraved which would cost a lot of money. After seeing this, I couldn't resist getting it but being spectacle because how affordable it was. Once I opened the item, I connected it to the computer and installed the app. It was very easy to use, there are some prebuilt images or you can upload you own picture. It does take couple of tires to get it right but once you know, its very easy. I had to play around with the burn time and speed based on the materials I was using but got the hang of it after 10 min.

I must say - this was the biggest game changer for my card making hobby. This machine is amazing and so easy to use. I know it has tons of advanced options that I didn't get to yet. I primarily use it to cut out stamped imaged. I can now cut out any stamp and image I wish to. I like to stamp whole page of images, color them in and then run through and cut out.

When it was delivered it came in a box with about a zillion pieces. This was a two day project with horrible horrible directions. However, I will say that the support that we received via email and chat was top-notch. The engineer was able to help us and decipher the issue that we were having with our settings. We had issues with our laser focus and they were able to walk us through. The product is great it works great. Customer service was fantastic. Something needs to be done about directions and how to put this thing together.

I bought this machine about two and a half months ago, and have been very impressed with it! This has been a great add to my workshop. It has held up to some periods of heavy use, when I've used the machine for a single work for 5 hrs, and run it pretty much non-stop for 2-3 days in a row.
I was a bit hesitant about the difficulty in putting the laser together and using the software before ordering, but saw other reviews and they were great. It did take me between 2-3 hrs to put together, but all the needed tools were included, and the instructions were just amazing. The laser included a zip drive that was plug and play, which helped me get up and running quickly.
I built a box to protect the unit from our cats, in addition to minimizing dust and dirt getting into the pieces.
All in all, this is a great tool for the hobbyist !

I will echo what others have, first, and say that the instructions are difficult. But the team gave me a video (17 min) that goes step-by-step on how to put the machine together. I followed it exactly and had zero problems. The laser itself (3000mW) works very well. I build a lot of military coin displays and other military-related products and so far, the laser has not had any issues. It took a little bit of research on the Google Machine to figure out how to tune the laser and make sure it's perfect, but I am very pleased with the operation of this machine. I have used it close to 20 hours (of actual use) and it has always turned out very nice. In the cases where the engraving did not turn out as planned, it was operator error. The accompanying software is more intuitive than I thought it would be. It didn't take long at all to figure it out after testing on a few pieces of scrap wood. I have not used it for anything other than wood, but the results have been very nice, so far, on oak and maple.

I am having so much fun with this laser. Once you get it put together. It's fun but takes a while. Get the right program. The only one that I've been able to use is the one provided by Universal Engraver. For as cheap as it was I have been using the crap out of it. It works well. Make sure the set screws and belts are tight enough.

Five stars, received software before I received the laser. Great customer service for sure. Every email I sent was replied to right away. The build instructions are a video. I found it easy to use my cell phone and pause video between steps, just do not get ahead of your self. Build only after what you see don't assume next steps. I built mine in about 3 hours taking short breaks. It works great also.
